I'll start by saying Maria, the hygienist is fantastic. Outside of her, this place is awful. The office manager is not a nice person. She refuses to discuss with us the fact that they owe us money. They made me pay up front for service and my insurance then paid them direct, but she won't call back to discuss. We tried to catch her in person and my wife was verbally assaulted saying that we need to schedule and appointment, which we would have been happy to do, had she called us back. I then requested a itemized statement this week, via voicemail. I didn't hear anything back so I called back and the office manager picked up. She confirmed my name, then said "your statement was mailed, stop calling us" and then hung up.... as if it's not common practice to call someone back when they leave you a voicemail. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.
Dr. Derwin is gentle yet thorough, the perfect combo. Maria, however, is out of this world!! I have never experienced a cleaning that left me feeling so renewed and my teeth are pearly white. She is quick but not rushed and my favorite part is that she massages you throughout your appointment! I swear my cleaning appointments are more of a trip to the spa :)
Dr. Derwin agreed to finish a procedure on me another dentist started. He began the work, I was charged for his service, and was told to come back in a week and he’d finish. I returned and was astonished when he entered the waiting room and told me he had changed his mind and would not complete the work he had started the week prior. A phone call ahead of time would shown some respect for my time. He cited concern about his “liability”, yet showed zero concern about my best interest. His reasoning isn’t relevant. This is a complaint that he wasn’t helpful, showed no sympathy or concern and he was extremely RUDE. He didn’t even allow me to ask a question about my health options before exiting the room. That’s what this post is about Doc, you’re not a bad dentist but you care more about yourself than someone in need of dental relief and you’re rude. I recall a case study I read in college about careless yet kind doctors that have far fewer malpractice suits than careful, talented, rude Doctors. Perhaps a worth while read for you. FYI, before this post, I offered to have a private conversation and gave him a chance to reconsider and Dr Derwin declined.
Dr. Derwin and staff made for such a nice dental visit. It felt more like being at a spa than a dental visit. During the cleaning, the hygienist checked my nodes and looked for any signs of oral cancer. That's a service I've had to pay for before. When she was checking, I commented that I didn't know I was going to get a massage along with my cleaning! From Amanda's warm and personable reception to Maria's relaxing touch and Dr. Derwin's personable professionalism... going to the dentist became a pleasant experience!
I had a broken tooth which needed to be pulled, when I spoke to his wife on the phone on Saturday and explicitly explained the situation she was very understanding and made the appointment for Monday at 4PM. Getting into the office I didn't have to wait long. Took an x-ray of the tooth "No I can't pull it as it is fractured." I asked if he could at least pull off the tooth that is flapping and moving around and he said "no because the root needs to come out as well. Plus I don't have time to even pull off the tooth." I was referred to a surgeon which was available to see me the next afternoon. The office girl stated that she would send over my xray to the surgeons office. In my rush to get out of the office since I was upset about the whole tooth issue, I had forgotten to get my receipt. So I got back to work, called the office no answer, called back again, still no answer so I left a voice message. Asked to please email me my receipt and that I wanted to make sure the xray is sent to the surgeon before my appointment with them the next day at 1PM. By the next morning still no receipt so I called the office again she asked me for my email address once again and she stated that she would send the xray. I get to my appointment at 1PM they never received the xray and they called and spoke with the women (wife of dentist) and she stated she would send it right away. Once I finished with my consult and signed the papers for the work to be done 30 minutes later they still had not received the xray. I never will go back to this dentist who has been practicing on Marco for more than 30 years and I always had my teeth worked on by him, but then had moved and then moved back to Marco. Very Very disappointed in the practice. I know that they have had hard times, but if it prevents you from being on top of your business hire someone who can get the job done.
